Creative Lighting
This space was originally designed to be an extra large living space, with a dining room area off to the side, connecting this space and the kitchen. However, as soon as the home was purchased, there was no doubt that a combined dining and living area was the best option.
This DIY dining table top rests on a frame crafted by a local welder. The size of this 8’ table is a big part of the inspiration to put the dining area in this room. This choice also allowed the former dining room to be used as an office and family room area.
One issue with this home in general was the lack of over head lighting downstairs. However, plug in wall sconces and floor lamps made the lighting functional in every space but the dining area.
The pipe attached to the ceiling was a great was to hang lights over the table while continuing the pipe and metal theme throughout the home. The two-sided porcelain light sockets were purchased for $5 a piece from Ebay and the cord was purchased by the foot from Lowe’s.
The lengths of the lights vary based off where each light is hanging in relation to the outlets flanking the window. The lights are plugged in so that the left two turn on at the same time and the right two turn on at the same time, and they can be on separately or at the same time.
The white cords were wrapped in washi tape to give them a fun custom look.
