Functional Entry Space

Three little boys mean lots of little shoes, and then there’s the grown up’s shoes. So, even though there isn’t a formal entry space in the apartment, it was necessary to have a place to take off and put on shoes, as well as store all the shoes.

This space has evolved some, and now each boy has a small bin on the top shelf to hold their shoes.

The seagrass basket now holds the boys socks, and there is now a large wooden crate by the door that is affectionately called the shoe basket. This is where the boys put their shoes when they come in and keep their most often worn shoes.

Also, these hooks are never this empty. They are often loaded to the max with baby carriers, sweatshirts, a book bag, a diaper bag and a work bag. It’s not the most visually appealing at times, but it works hard for our family and sometimes that’s the most important.

Sometimes things aren't aesthetically appealing by nature, and in these moments, if aesthetics would compromise function, or vice versa, it’s okay to thoughtfully consider which your family values more during the current season.
