When Your Cups Overflow
Do your kids have a favorite cup? Or maybe 50 favorite cups?
You guys, there were some plastic kids cups here at our rental when we moved in, and we also brought a few with us. Loading those things into our dishwasher became a part time job because my kids would use them all, everyday, seriously. It was exhausting. And don’t even get me started with the straws. Phew. So, one year for Christmas, my kids got “elephant cups”. They are these cute stainless steel cups with built in straws. They LOVE them and it’s all they use for their water (which is all we drink besides milk). I put adhesive vinyl letters on each of their cups too, so they would know which one is their’s. It’s worked really really well. (Sadly, I just learned that the cups we brought are no longer available. Which is a big bummer because they’re the best. If they bring them back I’ll come in and add the link!)
While some of those plastic cups have made their way back into the rotation, we wash wayyy fewer of them now. The best part is, I chose a cup I really enjoy looking at, so I don’t feel as much pressure to clear them off the table or the counter, and I’m okay with them sitting around all day. Which, let’s be honest, its either let their cups sit out all day or wash fifty cups, and I prefer the single cup sitting out all day.
I don’t like using these cups for anything other than water though, because I don’t want the straws to get icky, although they are easy to clean. So, when we started doing nightly smoothies for the kids, I went searching for a solution and found a set of cups we loveeeeee. So truly, we have no need for plastic cups anymore with the kids.
These are beautiful, durable, and functional. They work for hot or cold drinks and the straws are super easy to clean and short enough that they don’t get toppled over easy. The nice part is even if they do get knocked over, they are pretty leak proof. Here is the link to the exact cups I purchased.* I was searching based on reviews, affordability, and the number of cups. There are lots of other options out there, though. I also saw these* when I was looking and think they are super cute! Just make sure you look at the capacity of the cups before you order them so you don’t end up ordering cups that are too large or too small.
While this post is definitely about kids cups, this principle applies to anyone in regards to pretty much anything. Instead of a lot of something, try narrowing it down to just one or two that you love. You’ll be glad you did.
So, water you waiting for?
