Finding A Mate

On May 25th, Seth and I will celebrate eight years of marriage! It’s crazy to think we’ve been married that long and at the same time it feels like we’ve been married forever. But one of the fruits of our marriage, the smallest one, decided to be up for two hours last night. So, as I type the words married and marriage, they honestly just feel weird to type and say and read. Does anyone else feel that way about certain words when they’re tired? It’s like my brain all of the sudden can’t process that it’s a real word and a real thing that I'm actually living out. Okay, so anyways…this post has nothing to do with marriage actually, or finding that kind of mate. It’s about socks.

For a while I thought I was really smart by keeping all the spare socks in a small box, and then occasionally sorting the socks in the box. (I promise you’re reading a blog post, not a Dr. Suess book.) However, I would ask my four year old every morning to put on his socks and shoes and he would grab the sock basket (where all the boys’ socks are) and dump them all out while exclaiming, “I can’t find my socks!” After cleaning up all the socks from the floor for the 750th time, I decided something had to give. (As a side note, we keep the boys sock basket beside their shoes at the door, since that’s where they are when they need them.) Anyways, one day I did what every good millennial mom does, I hopped on the target app to find the solution to my problem. My oldest boys wear the same size socks, so I ordered two packs of socks in their size, in the color black. (Black socks do get dark lint everywhere, but it’s the color they chose so it’s fine by me.) Then I ordered a pack of socks in the littlest boy’s size, in the color white. Before I added the new socks, I removed all other socks from the basket. Let me repeat that, I removed all other socks from the basket. And it is so easy now! He doesn’t dump the socks out, it takes me no time to match all their socks, and the boys know which socks are theirs.

Main Take Aways:

  • Consider keeping your socks by the door, if that’s where your shoes stay

  • Consider having only one color and style of sock, to make matching easy

  • Consider having a set color for each size or person in your house

Hope you find your mate. XOXO
