A Calm Space for Three Crazy Boys

img_7111-1.jpg

The boys don’t play in their room often. Part of this is because they all share a room and the littlest one still naps. Another reason is because we store toys in our family room, not the boys room. The only toys they have in their room are their kitchen and one basket of kitchen toys. There are some puzzles and costumes and (lots) of books stored away in the closet. But for the most part, this room is for sleep and rest.

However, the few times I make my way in there to tidy up sheets and blankets and kitchen toys or the few times they play in there, I always feel so glad that we put some intention into their room, when we moved in over a year ago. This room functions so well for them and my favorite aspect is how quiet and calm the furniture and decor is. (I know the handmade signs wouldn’t technically be classified as calm, but you have to have some sort of fun 🤪) This is by far my favorite kid’s room we’ve ever had and it’s no doubt because it’s so calm and cohesive. When it’s all tidied up, it’s definitely a restful room to spend time in.

This room is a tangible reminder for me that sometimes just simplifying and quieting a space goes a long way.
